Rockstar Pushes GTA 6 Release to Late 2026 Amid Studio Layoffs

Rockstar Games has once again pushed back the release of Grand Theft Auto VI, now setting a new launch date for November 19, 2026. The long-awaited title was initially expected to arrive in autumn 2025, before being delayed to May 2026 earlier this year.

In a statement released Thursday, Rockstar explained that the extra time will allow developers to achieve the “level of polish players expect and deserve.” The studio expressed gratitude to fans for their continued patience, adding that it’s “incredibly excited” for them to explore Leonida—a fictional U.S. state inspired by Florida—and Vice City, a neon-soaked metropolis modeled after Miami.

The delay follows recent turmoil at Rockstar’s UK offices, where 31 employees were dismissed on October 30. The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which represents game industry staff, claimed the layoffs were an attempt to stifle unionisation efforts. Protests quickly broke out outside Rockstar’s Edinburgh and London studios in response.

Rockstar has shared few details about GTA 6’s development since its announcement. So far, two trailers have been released—the second, unveiled earlier this year, has racked up over 100 million views. The footage introduced players to Jason and Lucia, a criminal duo navigating life in Leonida, while teasing new vehicles, environments, and supporting characters.
