Doom: The Dark Ages is all about diving deep into dark sci-fi fantasy vibes. The campaign takes us back to a time before the Doom Slayer was sealed in that sarcophagus and woke up in Doom 2016. But don’t expect some emotional character arc here—the Slayer is still the same near-silent engine of destruction we know and love. It’s not about who he is; it’s about the world around him.
This time, the story aims to fill in the blanks—expanding the lore of the Doom universe by exploring the long-standing war between humans and demons. It digs into the Sentinels (basically humanity’s badass defenders) and the mysterious, godlike Maykrs. And you know what? It actually works.
The environments are a big part of that storytelling. From eerie, medieval-style sci-fi castles to the mind-warping, Lovecraftian “Cosmic Realm,” the game keeps things fresh and surprising. The puzzles and creepy vibes in that realm, in particular, feel like something new for Doom—and it’s awesome.
Honestly? This is the best Doom’s story has ever been. Not because it’s deep or emotional, but because it builds out a rich, weird, and totally metal universe that makes the demon-slaying even more epic.
