I just jumped into Hollow Knight: Silksong today — only about three hours in — and I'm already completely enthralled. It didn’t take long before I felt joyfully lost in its world. Unlike its predecessor, this one eases you in much faster, opening up branching paths early and giving you the tools to explore with confidence.

At this early stage, it's too soon to say how all its changes — from new upgrades to abilities — will unfold or just how vast this world will get. But based on what I’ve seen so far? Silksong is already living up to the hype.

One of the first things that struck me: Hornet actually talks. She's not the silent, inscrutable hero we know — she’s confident, guarded, and has personality in spades. Initially, I was worried that it might shift the tone too much, but she strikes a great balance: still reserved and quiet, yet far more expressive than the Knight. She communicates more clearly, but not in a heavy‑handed way.


And, oh, the writing — it’s poetic without ever feeling pretentious. It makes room for the serious alongside the silly. One line that cracked me up: a pilgrim croons at a sealed door, hoping it’ll open — then takes credit when you find the lever that works. It’s little touches like that, combined with gorgeous art and music, that remind me why Hollow Knight was so special — and they’re every bit as alive here.

Charm customization is more nuanced this time — they’re color‑coded, so you have to prioritize. Early on, I ran into a lot of yellow charms: do I want more currency from defeated enemies, or just have it auto‑picked up? And that choice even overlaps with what you slot into your secondary attack or Crests — some of which completely alter your attack style, almost like switching weapons.

So far, it’s all woven together beautifully: charming mechanics, intriguing world‑building, and heartfelt design. I can’t wait to uncover more.
