Resident Evil Requiem Might Be Headed to PS4 and Nintendo Switch 2, Insider Claims
Gamers who haven’t yet made the leap to PlayStation 5 may still get a shot at experiencing the next big chapter in the Resident Evil franchise. According to a recent rumor, Resident Evil Requiem — also known as Resident Evil 9 — could be making its way to the aging PS4 console.
First revealed during June’s Summer Game Fest, the game made a second appearance at Gamescom in August, offering a deeper dive into the story of Grace Ashcroft, the game’s lead character. While Capcom has remained tight-lipped on many of the game’s finer details, new info is starting to trickle out.
Well-known Resident Evil leaker AestheticGamer (also known as Dusk Golem) has suggested that a PS4 version of Requiem is indeed in development. Reportedly, it will run on different technology compared to the more advanced versions for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S — meaning some visual features and technical enhancements may be missing.
Interestingly, it’s also rumored that Resident Evil Requiem is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, it’s still unclear whether the PS4 and Switch versions will launch on the same day as the more powerful editions, which are currently slated for release on February 27.
Considering the PS4 originally launched over a decade ago, many might be surprised to see a major new title still supporting it. But it makes business sense — with over 100 million units sold, the PS4 remains one of the most widely owned consoles ever. Tapping into that massive user base could significantly boost the game’s reach and sales.
On the flip side, supporting older hardware might mean Capcom has to make compromises, potentially holding back the full potential of what could’ve been a truly next-gen Resident Evil experience. For now, though, fans on both sides of the generational divide can stay cautiously optimistic.
